I have finally found a dry shampoo that doesn’t repulse me.
Washing My Hair Makes My Arms Tired
I’m not the type of person who can go for days without washing my hair. I love the feel of fresh, clean hair, but I’m also lazy. My hair is so long right now and grows so fast due to the prenatal vitamins I’m taking. I’ve seen people go 5 days without a wash – and they work out! How? Remi is one of those. She does sweaty workouts too, not the mamby pamby kinds. And when I found out she uses Living Proof’s dry shampoo, I thought, “This is it. Tired arms no more.” But, it isn’t meant to be. The scent drove me nuts. I refuse to compromise for performance. I was so repulsed that I returned it the next day.
A lot of returned dry shampoo products
Living Proof’s dry shampoo isn’t my first attempt into the world of non-daily hair washing. In 2007-ish, I tried Oscar Blandi’s Pronto Dry Shampoo because it was highly recommended by Allure magazine. My laziness is productive. Sadly, this dry shampoo is not the one. This product is such a cakey, residue disaster that I had to wash my hair immediately after using it. Completely opposite of what I am trying to achieve. I’ve also tried Dry Bar’s Dry Shampoo and like the Living Proof one, the scent drove me insane. It was so overpowering that it gave me a headache.
Bumble & Bumble Prêt-à-powder
I had almost given up on dry shampoo but decided to try one more time. Like I said, laziness is a great motivator. Ebates was offering 14% cash back on Valentine’s Day so I used the opportunity to pick up some things at Sephora. Amongst those is Bumble & Bumble’s Prêt-à-powder Dry Shampoo with French Pink Clay. It seemed promising. Reviews are decent and pink clay is great at oil absorbing. With my track record, I was still skeptical. Upon use, my hair is soft and light with no gross residue or sticky feeling. As someone extremely sensitive to smells, the scent is very pleasant. Some days, I’ll work out in the morning and because dinner involves Korean BBQ or somewhere that will soak my hair in the scent of food, I’ll use the spray to freshen up to last the day until I shower at night.
Now that I have a product that I can live with, I still don’t go past 2 days. No product will ever replicate the feeling of freshly washed hair.
Limit Your Use
Since dry shampoo is not exactly the healthiest for the scalp, I limit my use to only when I direly need it. Since it can clog up the hair follicles and trap oil, bacteria, fungus (yes, so gross), it’s a good idea to thoroughly cleanse the scalp after using dry shampoo. I love using a scalp massager while I’m shampooing to dislodge any residue. Not only does it feel great but it also encourages circulation to the scalp to promote its health.
Are there any dry shampoos that you love and I haven’t tried? Let me know!
